Orbitz
Five airlines came together to form Orbitz out of a need to develop a
customer service travel website. The airlines were American Airlines,
Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Northwest Airlines and United
Airlines.
Orbitz has come along way since then. It no longer works with only Delta
Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Continental Airlines, United Airlines and American
Airlines. It now works with 455 airlines, a
half million lodging properties, 25 rental car companies, 18 cruise lines and 30
vacation packagers. Rental car companies include Budget Car Rental, Avis
Car Rental and 23 more rental car services.
Orbitz emphasizes comprehensiveness and wide selection. It gives you an
unbiased, unfiltered display of fares, schedules, rates and availability
all in one place. Thereby, it’s easy for anyone to find the lowest fare through
the Orbitz search engine.
Customer service is all the orbit at Orbitz. The company monitors
worldwide travel conditions round-the-clock so that it can provide its customers
a unique travel intelligence service. Customers may keep abreast of weather and
other travel variables online, via Email, Pager, PDA or through Orbitz’
toll free phone number.
A proposal germinated by Delta Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Continental Airlines, United Airlines and American Airlines has worked.
